COMPANY

Overview

We are an electronics technology company in the aerospace industry with more than 100 employees, which can now draw on more than thirty years of company history in Nördlingen. Founded in the mid-1980s as part of LRE Relais and Elektronik GmbH, and since 1999 belonging to United Technologies Corporation, we were re-named in 2003 as HS Elektronik Systeme GmbH. In the years that followed, we developed into a global market leader and hidden champion and were able to develop and produce a unique and patented technology at our site in Nördlingen.

Our products currently include Solid State Power Modules (SSPC) and Remote Power Distribution Units (RPDU). SSPCs are programmable, maintenance-free pluggable modules for electrical power distribution. They are used in various areas of an aircraft to save space and cover DC or AC applications along with digital and analog inputs for discrete data collection and processing. RPDUs contain multiple SSPCs and can be deployed remotely at individual points on the aircraft. Our customers include Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer and Comac.

One of our success factors is that all functions are centrally located at the site in Nördlingen. Due to the close cooperation between the Development and Production departments our designs are fine-tuned from the beginning of the project for series production. Over the years this close collaboration and the flexibility of a medium-sized business, combined with the resources of Collins Aerospace, has enabled us to offer smaller, lighter, and more cost-effective products to the marketplace, addressing specific customer needs.

History

Our origins go back to the year 1987, when we were founded as part of LRE Relais and Elektronik GmbH. Initially, we focused on the development and production of thick-film hybrid microcircuits, resulting in the construction of a purpose-built 2,400 square meter facility in Nördlingen in 1990.

The further development of these electronic components into programmable power circuits enabled the first orders in military and civil aviation to be won in the 1990s. The associated achievements led to our being acquired by United Technologies Corporation in 1999. In 2003 our name changed to HS Elektronik Systeme GmbH.

In the following years significant cost and weight savings were achieved through the introduction of innovative plastic hybrid components. Further orders in military aviation followed. In addition, we were able to develop and produce a unique and patented technology at the site in Nördlingen. This so-called chip-on-board technology (COB) has led to further cost, weight and size savings, so that in the last 15 years we have been selected for almost all new civil and military aeroplane secondary distribution systems.

In order to be prepared for the future, in 2013 we opened a new 4,900 square meter production site in Nördlingen, which enables the automated mass production of COB products and their continuous innovation in extensive development laboratories.

Since the acquisition in 2018 of Rockwell Collins Corporation by United Technologies Corporation, we have now become a subsidiary of Collins Aerospace. With the merger of United Technologies Corporation and Raytheon Corporation in 2020, we are now part of RTX Corporation.

In 2023 we celebrated our 10th anniversary at the Anton-Jaumann-Industriepark in Nördlingen.
